Independent Officers

There are a number of independent and impartial offices to assist Legislative Assembly in making government accountable and responsive to the public. These offices help to monitor government spending, assist individual citizens with concerns about their treatment by government, protect the interests of children, receive concerns about the release of government information and other privacy matters, and help Members of the Legislative Assembly avoid conflicts of interest.

To ensure their independence from government, by law, the head of each of the offices is named an Officer of the Legislative Assembly. The Officers report directly to the Assembly through the Speaker.
